National Championship Semifinal
Wolfhounds 12 - ATL Old White 53
May 17, 2025
It wasn’t meant to be for the hounds at the weekend versus Atlanta old white with a final score of 53-12. Congratulations to all the lads on their stellar season, enjoy the break and we will go again! Thank you to all the supporters who traveled to Kuntz stadium
Atlantic Regional Championship
Wolfhounds 31- NYRC 10
May 5, 2025
The Hounds’ D2 team completed an incredible comeback in the ASR Final, winning their third consecutive Atlantic crown with a dominant second-half performance against New York Rugby. After a hard-fought first half, where New York had the wind at their backs and controlled possession, the Hounds found themselves down 10-3 at the break. Despite New York’s attacking dominance, the Hounds' defense held firm, with standout performances from centers Xavier Fangmeyer and Jack Kiernan, and second-row Joe Griffin. The Hounds capitalized on a penalty just before halftime, setting the stage for their explosive second-half rally. With the wind in their favor, they ripped off four converted tries, including key moments from Killian Berthoz, Jack Kiernan, and a clinching score from Sean Moran, ultimately winning 56-10 in the second half alone.
The second half was a masterclass in attacking rugby, with precise kicking from Jack Connolly and Sam Grant and a relentless set piece that wore down New York’s defense. Connolly, in particular, created space and linked up with Andrew Marshall to set up Moran’s decisive try. Paul Taylor sealed the win with a try in the dying minutes, capping off a memorable performance in front of his family. With the win, the Hounds booked their third straight trip to the Final Four, where they will face Atlanta Old White. Despite the remarkable achievement of winning NERFU and the ASR for three years in a row, the Hounds feel they have yet to play their best rugby, and they’re determined to cap off their season with a third Final Four victory.
Atlantic Regional Semifinal
Wolfhounds 35 - North Bay 29
May 5, 2025
In a gripping ASR Semifinal clash, the Hounds faced their stiffest test yet against a formidable North Bay (MD) side featuring seasoned talent from the MLR and USA 7s pipeline. Playing into a stiff harbor wind at Fort Adams, the Hounds struck first through a Jack Kiernan try, converted by Jack Connolly. But that early momentum quickly unraveled as North Bay dominated possession and discipline, racking up 24 unanswered points by halftime, aided by a lopsided penalty count and a yellow card to the Hounds. The reigning champions trudged to the break under pressure, needing a spark to keep their title defense alive.
With the wind now at their backs and a chorus of support from family and teammates, the Hounds mounted a fierce second-half comeback. Ronan Griffin and Killian Berthoz combined brilliantly to open the scoring after the break, and soon after, Jack Rowland powered over from a dominant scrum. North Bay hit back with a stunning wide score, but the Hounds wouldn’t relent. Kiernan notched his second try after a turnover by Paul Taylor, and with just a minute left, Andrew Marshall barreled in under the posts to seal a dramatic 36-34 win. The Hounds now march into Sunday’s final with a shot at a historic threepeat, set to face their familiar rivals from New York.
NERFU Final
Wolfhounds 23 - Portland 20
Nov 16, 2024
The Hounds D2 won a third NERFU title in a row by defeating, once again, Portland 23-20 in a hotly contested and unbelievably physical performance. The win cements their status as iconic teams of Hounds lore, second perhaps only to the 2003-2005 run of back-back-back NERFU crowns, which included two D1 national championships. Taken together with their two previous NERFU titles this one may have been the most unexpected and certainly, with the D3 winning hours before, the most jubilant.
With the shine still on the D3 cup and the sideline and sidewalks of Union Point awash in a joyous sea of green, the D2 put in a performance for the ages. With 10 new players suiting up for the D2 team this year, including two former Younghoundz and eleven from last year’s D3 team, the squad was very different from the one that lost to Oceanside RFC just 5 months ago. A rebuild process was the plan. But sometimes the stars align, and come from behind wins against Mystic & Worcester (twice), as well as injuries and suspensions mounting, make this one particularly sweet.
NERFU Semifinal
Wolfhounds 29 - Worcester 27
Nov 11, 2024
The Hounds’ D2 side, two-time NERFU and ASR Champions, came back from a 17 point first half deficit and weathered three controversial yellow cards in the second half to defeat Worcester 29-27. The win, against all odds, put this young and plucky group against longtime nemesis Portland in yet another NERFU title game. The Northmen handled Mystic in the other semifinal 29-14. This is the third consecutive year the Hounds and Portland have met for the NERFU Title game and there is no doubt, though, that this year the Hounds are the underdogs. There were 14 changes between last year’s NERFU winning side and this week’s semifinal team. A mix of young up-and-comers, former D3 players, greybeards, and new additions to the Hounds have rebuilt much in this short season. This is a group that is dynamic, raw, resilient, and heart-stopping to watch.
Portland 29 - Wolfhounds 19
Nov 2, 2024
The Hounds’ D2 team lost their final game of the regular season to Portland 29-15. The loss drops the Hounds to the 2nd seed going into the NERFU playoffs. The loss to Portland and the 2 seed is reminiscent of the Hounds’ first D2 NERFU Cup in the 22-23 season.
Playing away in Maine is always a tall task and the Northmen did no favors by scheduling an early kickoff time. But the lads produced some highlight play and, most importantly for Coach Liam Swanton, etched in some coachable moments as the Club looks for its third consecutive D2 NERFU Title.
Worcester 11 - Wolfhounds 38
Oct 19, 2024
The Hounds D2 team roared back from an eleven point first half deficit to score 38 unanswered points at Worcester this past Saturday and walk away with a bonus point win, 38-11.
The win secures the Hounds’ playoff spot in the top four with only two weeks in the regular season remaining. But there is still a lot left unknown in the D2 playoff race with several high stakes matches - including a trip for the Hounds to Portland, Maine - which will determine the final seeding.
The match was played in idyllic conditions, but another challenging pitch with narrow lines and spotty underfooting.
Wolfhounds 25 - Boston RFC 19
Oct 5, 2024
The Hounds D2 maintained their perfect regular season record, besting Boston rugby 25-19 at the ICC.
The game was scrappy, violent, and physical with five yellow cards produced by the referee throughout the 80 minutes.
The Hounds have a much needed bye week coming up, but two massive matches remain and both away from the spiritual home of New England rugby.
Wolfhounds 79 - Charles River 10
Sept 28, 2024
The Hounds’ D2 team punished Charles River, the defending and newly promoted NERFU D3 title holders, 79-10 on Saturday at the ICC.
The win puts the Hounds in ideal position for the gauntlet of the season as their final three regular season matches are against the other top four teams in NERFU.
After a tough and narrow win against Mystic the Hounds attack was unleashed on the Rats. The lads ran in 13 tries on the day and took advantage of a weakened and deflated Charles River defense.
Mystic River 10 - Wolfhounds 14
Sep 29, 2024
Playing earlier in the day than usual and under terrible conditions the lads put in a spirited performance and snatched victory away from the hosts, winning 14-10. The match was an instant classic, though hardly one full of champagne rugby. These two clubs, longtime foes, have seen some physical and violent encounters and even though the weather did not cooperate it did not dampen the joy for the Hounds in winning at Malden.
Hartford 0 - Wolfhounds 67
Sep 14, 2024
An undermanned D2 team, traveling with only 19 because of injuries and unavailability, dominated Hartford 67-0.
Hartford had a few opportunities, but the-no-quit defensive attitude instilled by coach Liam Swanton prevented the host from crossing the white line and several long distance tries were converted by the Hounds off defensive pressure.
Wolfhounds 48- Newport 10
Sep 7, 2024
The Hounds D2 team, back-to-back NERFU Champions, began their title defense with a strong, but somewhat sporadic win against a plucky undermanned Newport team 48-10.
Next week the D2 travel to Connecticut to visit a physical Hartford team at home while the D3 host a very strong North Shore side the ICC.
