NERFU Final

Wolfhounds 24 - Charles River 26

April 13, 2024

A gutsy performance in a cracker of a match saw Charles River narrowly prevail against the Hounds division 3 side. It was a physical encounter to kick off festivities at the ICC that saw the Hounds play defense for the bulk of the match and come within a whisper of the NERFU Title.

In the end discipline and the rub of the green did not go the Hounds way and Charles River advance to the Sweet 16 to face off against the Eastern Pennsylvania representative, Lehigh Valley Rugby. Attention turns now to the NERFU Cup which the Hounds D3 have targeted as their next objective.

NERFU Semifinal

Wolfhounds 23-Providence 14

April 6, 2024

The Hounds exacted their revenge against Providence for the regular season defeat they suffered back in the Fall. Providence, last year’s NERFU Champion, proved to be a challenging opponent for the Hounds -compounded by a gutting 4 yellow cards for the Wolfhounds. The lads notched two penalty kicks but ceded a try shortly before the half. In the second half the Hounds were able to score 2 tires, one off a beautiful grubber by fly half Will Robbins-Cole. And another on a beautiful intercept by the formidable center Garrett Miller. A shaky end to the game saw Providence answer with a try of their own, but it was too little too late as the Wolfhounds now look to take on Charles River on April 13th in the NERFU Final.

Wolfhounds 34 - Albany 19

November 11, 2023

The D3’s are heading to the playoffs! The lads capped off a storybook season with a bonus point win against a formidable Albany team. The Hounds, who began the season with 3 backbreaking losses, never lost faith in their goal or each other. The lads showed up to Albany in force. A caravan of Hounds players and supporters drove to NY to watch the match. In what has become the theme of the season, the D3’s played a gritty first half were play wasn’t quite clicking. Never flustered, the lads were able to improve their play throughout the match and put in several late tries to ice the game. The D3 now has their sights on a NERFU title and a berth in the Sweet 16 against the Eastern Pennsylvania winner scheduled for April 20th, 2024.

Wolfhounds 45 - N. Shore- 30

Nov 4th, 2023

Riding high on the back of 3 consecutive wins the D3’s traveled to Salem for a game against North Shore. The lads were well aware of the fact that nothing short of 2 bonus point wins to end the season would punch their ticket to the NERFU playoffs in the Spring. The larger North Shore pack proved challenging for the Hounds in the first half, but quickly gave way to fatigue. The Hounds were all business in the second half and slotted 3 tries to secure their win. The team travels to Albany next week where they control their own destiny.

Wolfhounds 34 - Charles River 29

Oct 28, 2023

The 2-3 Hounds faced top of the table Charles River in a must win game in order to keep our playoff hopes alive. Hounds piled on the pressure, but struggled to generate the quick ruck ball to convert. Heat and some unfortunate injuries for the Hounds resulted in a 24-14 halftime score favoring the Rats.

The Hounds were staring down the barrel of a season-ending loss. With renewed life in the second half the Hounds came out firing on all cylinders to seal the victory. Hooker Anif McDonald was forwards man of the match for tireless tackling and carrying and Killian Berthoz was given backs man of the match for 3 clutch tries. Hounds now have two must-win away games against North Shore and Albany to claim their spot in the spring NERFU playoffs.

Wolfhounds 39 - Amoskeag 7

Oct 21, 2023

The D3’s followed up their victory at Old Gold with a comprehensive 37-7 win over Amoskeag in rainy conditions on the 21st. With the two bonus point wins the lads are back in the hunt for a playoff berth. Both matches were arm wrestles for the first quarter as the Hounds looked to impose their will and grind down their opponents.

The difference for the D3 in the last two weeks is a commitment to defense and relentless physicality. The scoreline reflects the team's vast improvement and focus. Now, with three matches left - against the top three teams on the ladder - there is no room for error. The boys know that they are on the precipice of an exciting and memorable regular season that could well see both D2 & D3 fighting for a NERFU title and a birth in the National Sweet 16.

Wolfhounds 45 - Old Gold 7

Oct 14, 2023

The Hounds’ D3 team got the win they needed, when they needed it the most, against a spirited, but undermatched Old Gold side along the scenic shores of Carson Beach in South Boston on Saturday the 14th, 45-7. Killian Berthoz - a new addition to the club - has stamped his personality on the team as a hard charging ball carrier and ferocious tackler. He scored a blinder against Old Gold beating 5 defenders in a 70 meter scamper along the sideline. After 3 close losses, the lads look to right the ship and get their first win to stay in the playoff race. A top four finish guarantees meaningful rugby in the spring.

Wolfhounds 22 - Maccabi 29

Sep 30, 2023

The Hounds’ D3 team earned another bonus point in a losing effort against a newly merged Maccabi & MIT side on Saturday, in Cambridge. The Maccabi/MIT team, newly merged this season, has some young talent and some foreign flair. Their game was physical and tactical with clever kicking and smart defense. Moral victories are getting old, the team agreed, and with a bye week ahead of them they’re prepared to double down on their efforts to get into the top 4 for the playoffs.

Wolfhounds 20-Providence 27

Sep 23, 2023

The Wolfhounds’ Division 3 team dropped a tough match, though gained another losing bonus point, against the defending NERFU champions, Providence 20-27. It was a similar story for the Hounds as their season opener. Starting slowly and struggling to get cohesion, The Hounds who themselves playing from behind again 14-0. All is not loss for the D3 side as they look to make the top 4 and ensure their spot in the playoffs.

Wolfhounds 36- Burlington 46

Sep 09, 2023

The Wolfhounds’ D3 side earned a bonus point in a high scoring and frantic back & forth match against Burlington Rugby this past Saturday at the Irish Cultural Centre. Coming into the match newly promoted back to D3 Burlington was prepared for the elements and the challenge that the ICC presents. The Northmen are a burly bunch with clever play makers at 10 and 12 and a bruising pack that were effective in carrying the ball straight at the hosts.
